What is Heart attack ?

Heart attack is the sudden loss of blood supply to heart muscle due to complete occlusion (100% block) in the blood vessel (coronary artery) which supplies blood to the heart.

Symptoms of Heart attack   are:

  • Compressive / squeezing type of chest discomfort / tightness / pain,  in the chest that may radiate to arms, neck, jaw, upper abdomen or back

  • Angina : Chest discomfort aggravating on exertion and relieved by rest / Nitroglycerin

  • Heartburns

  • Shortness of breath (dyspnea)

  • Profuse sweating

  • Fatigue, dizziness

  • Rarely nausea / vomiting

What is Heart failure ?

Heart failure is a condition in which heart does not pump enough blood to meet the body's demand for blood and oxygen. Most commonly there is a decrease in pumping function of the heart.

Symptoms of Heart failure  are:

  • Shortness of breath (dyspnea) on exertion/rest/lying down

  • Swelling (edema) of legs, ankles/feet

  • Swelling of abdomen (ascites)

  • Reduce urine output

  • Weight gain from fluid retention
